Please help id - Little eggs

[I have noticed these little green/brown looking eggs showing up on my Live Rock. They look like little egg balls and appear to be a perfect sphere in shape.

Can someone tell what these are and if i need to be concerned.]

[Try not to pop them, they'll release spores into the water and spread like crazy. Don't know from personal experience, but I've heard that emerald crabs eat them.]

[They are valonia. Bubble algae. Removing them carefully would be a good move.]

[inject air into them will kill them. I have successfully done this using a syringe. One of the small ones used for insulin works best. Apparently the air will kill the spores. Be very careful and wait until they are about the size of a dime. They will have a little bit of looseness in the outside skin. Insert the needle on the lowerst part of the algae being very stable. DO NOT OVER INFLATE. All you are doing is putting in just a little bit of air. That kills the algae inside so that when it deteriorates it does not spread.

The reason I say this is because some you can remove using a knife or other tool but some you can't. After screwing up and getting a blue zillion (?) of them in a 75 of mine this was the technique I used to get rid of mine. Took a couple of months and a lot of patience but I was successful in removing the suckers.

good luck]

[That's a new one to me. I've never heard of such a method. How did you come up with that idea, Steve?]

[I got frustrated then thought they looked like a ball. Sometimes like a partially inflated ball and that is when I thought about the injecting air. It surprised me at first because it was one of those look sucker I am going to kill you moments and then he died. lol Then I tried it again and it just started working. Who knew?]

[Don't have any bubble algae yet, but that sounds like a cool tip to store away for future ref...

Out of curiosity - about how long does it take the ball to die/deteriorate after injection?]

[They start to die within a day and are gone within a week. It is like they eat themselves but I have a feeling that some of the bacteria takes them or some of the worms.]
