Plastic/Acrylic for overflow for a drilled tank.

Where do I buy premade parts for overflows?

I have a drilled tank, and bulkhead. Now I need the plastic piece that i can silicon in. where can i buy it?

You can buy clear acrylic at Home Depot or Lowes. Or you can buy colored acrylic from Allied Plastics or Regal Plastics. Both are listed on our LFS page (top right corner of the screen, just scroll way down).

I wanted to get one of the plastic pieces with the slots/holes already there.

And also one that is round / 3 sided semi-rectangular like in the RR oceanic tanks with the overflow in the middle.

Any idea where I can get one of those?

Marc is your guy... Hit him with a PM and he will be able to make whatever you want. :)

Wow , pricy.

I thought my cover from glass cages was priced OK at $35 , heck it seems like a steal compared to some.

Many people prefer to have their overflows covered.
We can provide black plastic acrylic covers that fit your overflow perfectly.
The tops of our covers come notched to help prevent fish from falling in.
Add to my order 1 acrylic cover. [Add $35 for 1 cover]

Thanks for all of the replies!

Does anyone know what thickness I should order for my acrylic internal overflow box?

I just went my Regal Plastics and gave them my design, but wasn't sure what thickness I should make it.

It is a 100 gallon long tank, the overflow will be 3 sided and:
19" tall
10" wide
6" deep

I'm also going to checkout that Altair Plastic place in Richardson. Anyone know what I can expect price-wise for this box to be made?

I'll get a quote in a day or two from Regal since my guy was out of town.

Lastly, what is starboard or hpde that people keep talking about? Anyone have a picture or anything? Whats it used for?

Thanks!

Christian from http://www.wetdryfilter.com/internal_overflow_boxes.htm
just replied and said he uses 1/4" acrylic for his boxes...

Anyone agree/disagree/have comments about this?

Yes, 1/4" is fine. If you plan to make it without teeth at Regal, just have it 1" shorter. Then you can glue eggcrate to the top to make teeth, which stop fish and snails from entering the overflow.

some people use starboard or hpde for putting on the bottoms of bare bottom tank setups. it protects the glass from the rocks and corals can attach to it.

The biggest downsides of it I've heard are that it floats and is somewhat difficult to pin down in all corners and also that detritus collects under it.

What does starboard look like?

I always use the plastic egg crate sheets for the bottom of my tanks to help spread the surface area of rocks. Home Depot sells it as lighting covers.

I cant seem to find any pictures or references online of what starboard is, except of course what part of a boat that is.

Starboard is a name for food-grade cutting board material. You can buy it from Regal Plastics as well.

Got it ordered from Regal for $65. I will be routing out the teeth myself because it would be an extra $100 for the teeth.

Both. I purchased the higher power heat strip and mounted it on plywood covered with foil and fiberglass material. It will heat a 24" long piece.

Ok, before I got it actually ordered I went to Professional Plastics in Richardson and they will do it for $50 and that includes the teeth!

Excellent place! I spoke with Kadie Bates.
