Pistol Shrimp Identification

I decided to start a new thread on this topic since this one happend to start at the end of the "Bottom feeder" thread.

What kind of pistol shrimp IS this? I saw him today he has 3-4 white spots running down his sides and back. His back is dark cherry red.

Here are some pictures, my husband and I are working to get more (he stole the fish head we used as bait... sneaky little shrimp).

I would try posting these pictures on reef central. You might be able to get more help there.

Great find!
It is Alpheus armatus, or, Caribbean Red Snapping Shrimp.
He forms a symbiotic realtionship with a corkscrew anemone.

Now... what in the world is a corkscrew anemone and what would my shrimp do with it?

Thanks for the ID. I have one of those also!

They will pair up with a goby.

When I purchased mine it was part of a shrimp/goby pair until the goby passed away. However, we introduced another goby (that he should have paired up with) afterwards and he wouldn't pair up. He kept snapping him away. We will try again though

This is him poking out of his balcony. THe rock has tunnels going thorugh it so he can crawl up through the rock from the bottom cave to poke his head out here.

Aww how cute! You know I noticed that your pistol and others I've seen have snappers on the other hand that mine does. Isn't that wierd? Maybe he's just a lefty :p
One guy told me that this pistol will likley eat gobies instead of pairing, but then another member said his was paired with a watchman.
He rolled my condilactus anemone up in to a ball the other day. Maybe I should get a curly q.
