Pictures from my prop section

I thought it would be nice to photograph some corals growing out quietly.

Here's what I have down there currently. It really is just a holding place and a spot to put stuff that I want to keep track of or to grow out.

There is a bunch of nice stuff down there, and some would go in that new tank I'm thinking about adding.

While photographing, I saw a blue legged hermit crawling around. Obviously, he found his own way to this part of my system. Then I saw another surprise.

After the DFWMAS fragswap, I added 12 peppermint shrimp to my display. This guy found his way down to the prop section, and that's great. He can devour any stray aiptasia.

Speaking of lost stuff, I found my last Blue Chromis swimming in the rear overflow box. I hope he's happy back there. ;)

I need to move this up to the display. It sure is pretty.

This was the branch I tested last night for AEFW. None were found.

Here's the other frag that broke off. Oops.

Here are some ricordia I got at the LFS months ago. It has been very happy in the prop section. Maybe I'll put it in the new tank.

Here's a baby that dropped off and grew larger. Some twigs of Bird's Nest seem to be doing fine, but I really should mount them on some rock rubble.

This looks so pretty, although completely unplanned.

This acan seems to be doing well. When I gave it to Frank, it was in poor condition due to neglect because I was preoccupied with the 215 build. Here's what it looked like when it was in my possession for future growth reference.

It seems so be coloring back up nicely as well as spreading noticeably.

Marc, did I hear something about you setting up a new tank? What is this talk all about? Details?

By the way, your zoos in the prop section look awesome.

I want to add a new tank by the front door, so when you walk in you'll see a mini-reef. I'm going to plumb it into the main sump of the 280g through the wall (two walls since the closet is inbetween). That way I don't have to worry about a separate skimmer, heater, refugium, etc. All it will be is the tank and the light, which I have already.

The one I want to make looks very similar to the "Seahorse" video on reefvideos.com I think it would be great when you first walk in.

I still have it and don't know what I'm going to do with it.

i know this is very old, but do you have better pictures on how you set up a section in your sump for frags? and what light are you using on it?
thanks
(and anyone else that has a prop system/grow out in the sump, can you post pictures or PM me some pictures. im looking to do this with my sump, or expand my sump to do this.

Holy old thread Batman.

Funny thing is that Marc is upgrading again.

Marc, do you have any of those brown/green mint zoas anymore? I had a huge colony of them but sold them when we moved to Austin.

I know Marc is working on his 400, and his old sump is still running his temp setup.

I'm just looking for pictures and ideas for a insump grow out.

I'll try to dig up some old pictures to show it to you. That was a while ago. The return zone was big, probably 26g total. I had a 150w DE 10,000K bulb over it, which rolled back and forth on a drawer slider track (used for keyboards actually). I had flow from a outlet out of the manifold assembly.

Light rolled forward. PVC pipe on the right was for flow from manifold.

Light rolled back for access.
