Pest problem ??

The past couple of days I've noticed these marks on my plate corals. Could these be signs of nudis and what should I do? Specially with the large Red Monti which is fully encrusted. I know if I try to take it out, it will be broken to pieces. Any chance I can treat in the tank?

I have had nudies and they didn't eat like that, but they do eat in patches. I never found to many on the top, but rather they ate from the bottom. I guess they could be so far along that they are eating threw the monti..? When your lights go out tonight pull one out and check the bottom. That is the easiest way. Marc has some really good pictures of them, and the adults are easy to spot.

As far as getting rid of them you can't really treat the whole tank. There are some wrasses that will eat them, but it is only going to slow it down.

What I did was:
1. Broke off all monti cap colonies
2. Broke off and threw away pieces that were extremely covered (probably half of my caps)
3. I then dipped in Lugol's and Revive every few nights for a couple weeks.

I still check the underside of my monti's every few nights and have only found 2 in the last 2-3 weeks. I think I am close to wiping them out.

What else might be the problem here? If these are nudis why is my scroll and other unidentified coral bit as well? I thought nudis ate only montis or zoas. Hope to find an answer before they're gone. My Red Monti was grown from a small frag and has been very healthy till now.

I have a high alk problem right now ( 14.3 ), but I don't think this is the cause for this.

I have seen patches of slime get on a coral and discolor it. A couple of times I had to turn off the pumps, remove rock, move coral, and stuff slimed quite a bit. But that would be a lot of small bits of slime going everywhere in your tank to do all of that! I cut a coral tonight, and thinking that slime might be traveling through the tank, I put filter socks everywhere that I could to try and catch some of it.

I know I have a black limpet in there somewhere !! Saw it once and never again. I lost both of my Leathers, so I know he is still around. Maybe this is the problem. What do you all think ?

I hear leathers are one of the only corals that can really pollute a tank with chemical warfare; however I'm not sure what its effect looks like. I got rid of mine when I started switching to sps because it would shed it skin from time to time and land on something expensive.

My leathers are long gone. This began some days ago. Nudis don't eat Scroll Corals (far as I know) so I'm looking for other causes.

For those that have dealt with this does it look like nudis or something else? I don't want to go tearing things apart without knowing. WAPITA !!

Instead of red bugs look for black bugs or any type of flat worms. You will need to dip them in coral rx or revive and see what comes off

14 is pretty high on alk especially if you are running biopellets. Need to be around 8 or at highest 9

I overdosed. I think a large water change will help. Doing that today. Last night I broke a piece of the affected Red Monti and found absolutely nothing underneath !! They just look like bite mark of some kind. If it doesn't improve, I'll have to break them off and dip them. Was hoping to avoid that but I guess it's better then seeing them getting chewed up.

Found this in an article. Too damn funny.....

Montipora-eating Nudibranchs (never abbreviated to "MEN") can be devastating to Montipora species !!! [smilie=rofl.gif]
