Tank has been established for a little over 1 1/2 years. Everything appears to be happy.. When I moved to my 65 g, I purchased 3 chromis to go with the two I already had. Last week, one disappeared. This past monday I watched one die at the front of the tank (I fed it to the rock anemone) Now I have one that is staying to itself; occasionally it'll speed to the top of the tank but for the most part, its been staying on the bottom of the tank under a rock, when the snails start to move in it darts off. What could be causing the chromis loss? Tank mates are 2 clarki, 1 yellow tang, n. obsoleta snails, 1 emerald crab, kenya trees, monti cap frags, anthelia, red and green mushrooms, pumping xenia, frogspawn, candy canes and a few other softies. The fish eat twice a day. Right now mostly flakes.....

Ideas?

i have 11 chromis and i find that they just die easly (imho). out of all that i have owned i have lost 3-4 in a year. the ones i lose are small and newly acclimated. i just think they get sick easy.

Thanks Larry, Could it possibly be Clarki agression? I've just noticed my larger clarki nipping at the chromis..
Also, what other schooling are easy to keep?

i know from my chromis that they need to be in a decent size school to be happy. i 1st started with 3 and they did not school together. i added 2 more and they schooled together. now the 11 school great and Dori tries to break them up by swiming into them.

is there any red spots before they die on their bodies? are the fins chewed? these could be symptoms of the clown beating them up.

oh yeah the disp. chromi might be in your sump, if you have one. might took a ride and i thought he was dead. wife found him the sump swiming like a champ.

Naaaaa, its not in the sump. I check there about 3 times / day. (lot of evap so I top off about 1.5 gallons/day)

Check your top off water with a TDS meter.
My 5 gallon bucket had a high reading the other day and tested the storage and out put with 0 reading and the bucket was the problem.
Cleaned the bucket and fresh RO perked up the corals in the tank.
Just a thought.

I've had mixed results as well. I'd add a couple, then lose a couple. I have 5 now, and have had them for about 9 months, and they all seem to be doing great. They seem to do better in the group of 5 than they did when I was trying to keep 3.
