Peaks Clown, a newly discovered... supposedly...

We got 4 Peaks clowns today.
supposedly they're a newly discovered off of New Guinea.
They're pinkish orangish, with yellow tail and fins, light face, and a dark purplish belly.

They're very pretty, but the flash took out some colors

anybody heard of these before?

Just curious were they expensive? They are nice and it seems like lately a couple of new clowns have been popping up especially deeper water ones. Very nice fish congrats!

expensive... a relative term...
$45 each. :)

That is true. I guess I meant in relation to say a wide band clown. Those are normally in the $175-$200 range. Very nice fish and $45 is cheaper than most gold band maroons and I think it's as nice of a fish at first glance. Nice fish!

Michelle: A very interesting find. When you say ?newly discovered? do you mean as in a new species, or that this fish is not ordinarily found in New Guinea? Or is it perhaps some sort of hybrid? Can?t find much info on them, unless this is the same or similar to the Red Sea-Peak Clown. I think it is also just called a Red Clown. Then again, some refer to a Tomato or Cininmon as Red Clowns. Are any of these pics close to what you have?

Red Sea Peak
Red Clown
Red Clownfish

Either way, I?d say 45 bucks each is a very good price.

yea, but these have a purple belly

but we took them home, they came down with some sort of bacteria infection within a day. Husband took the fish back to the store to talk to them. :(

hope everything works out, nothing I hate more than to get all excited over a fish and then you bring it home, and the poor thing just breaks down on ya.

I picked up some clowns they are calling "Teaks" clown and they are from Shri Lanka and look almost exactly like these. Did the store you got them from say what area of the world they came from? I am thinking I have the same ones but it is hard to say. Any info would be appreciated.

I guess those ARE teaks clown....

they came in and died in 2 days from what looked like brook, so you should definitely quarantine them and treat them if possible.

I guess yours probably came from the same local supplier as the ones I got.

Teak clowns is the NEW name for "Black-foot" clowns from sri lanka - we used to get those before the TSUNAMI hit there....recently they were allowed by CITES to be imported again..they come from Sri lanka, Irian Jaya, and the Maldives...if you lookupp maldives clown or blackfoot it should bring good literature...
-the latin name is: Amphiprion Negripes (cf. blackfoot)
