Pappone anyone?

I just made my first batch of Pappone tonight to begin feeding my reef. For those who were attended Next Wave, this is the stuff that Michael Paletta talked about and it is used by many overseas, especially in Italy. There is a massive thread on RC titled Italy's Best! Matured SPS Aquariums that talks about the stuff in great depth and the apparent successes of using it.

Anybody else in DFWMAS jumping on the bandwagon?

Kevin,
Mind posting your recipe? I was caught up with that thread on RC, but it got lost amongst the numbers.

I was interested in Mike Paletta's steroid recipe. Immediately after his presentation, I asked him if he would email the recipe if I requested it. He agreed. I did email him within 2 days of Next Wave asking for the recipe, so I could then pass it on to the membership. Have yet to hear from him. I'm hoping it's just because of a busy schedule that I've not heard from him.

That's pretty much my fish food recipe anyway! It has all size chunks including tiny. I usually through in silversides but otherwise pretty close.

One thing to watch out for is the food being too small. I thought this would cover all aspects of my tank, but I noticed when you blend the food so small the fish won't eat it. :?

That was Mike Paletta's point. It is so super fine that the fish go nuts but can't find it. He only uses it 3 times a week, and the corals eat it. Are you also dosing the amino acids 20 minutes earlier to give the corals the signal to prepare for a meal?

I talked with Alex yesterday, and he's using it as well. I'll have to send him a link to this thread so he can comment as well.

I'll be on the bandwagon as soon as I get my new tank up and running. Where did you get your fresh seafood? said:
I bought the seafood from Central Market. I believe the shrimp were previously frozen, but the clams, oysters and mussels were still alive. I've actually been using Seachem Reef Plus for a couple of weeks now and plan to use it as an amino stimulant to get the corals ready to eat. I plan to feed a small amount tonight, then, as documented, check my NO4 and PO3 levels in the morning to see how much of an impact it had on the water quality.

I started feeding pappone 2 weeks ago.
I had my second feeding yesterday. I feed once a week. Just like they said. 1 hour prior to the light going out, I dosed Reefbooster amino acids, and then the pappone. Waiting to see progress.

I did my first Pappone feeding tonight so now I can add to any positive or negative comments. Do you think that I'll wake up to find my reef looking like one of the mature tanks on RC?

I do notice quite a bit more polyp extension on all of my corals, including a gonipora that's never seemed very happy in my tank. I thought it was odd to see it expanded with the lights out.

BTW, thanks for the tip on getting the shellfish open Alex!

To quote Alex...

"Take a thin knife and drive it right down the middle. Cut the clam in half and then scoop the stuff up, one shell at the time."

I got in a rush this morning and didn't have a chance to test the levels. I put some water in a capped test tube so I can check when I get home this afternoon.

any updates? -Chuck said:
I feed once a week, every Sunday night. Tonight, will be the 3rd feeding of the tank. I'll take measurements tomorrow morning (Monday) and update you all on the NO2 and PO4 values.

Nothing much to update yet as I'm only feeding a small amount once a week. The last feeding didn't make any noticeable change in nitrate or phosphate levels.
