Palys tend to be larger, at least double a zoanthid size when mature. Some zoanthids are about the size of smaller palys though. Palys tend to have well defined mouths, such as the people eater variety. They also use their mouths to eat, palys will actively feed where zoanthids are mainly filter and light feeders. If you watch them close, palys tend to have ribs on the underside of their skirts and bodies. Palys also tend to slime, where zoanthids don't.
