Pair of true percs in a 29 gal? - Too small?  or ok?  oppinions count

[I am thinking about adding my first fish to my tank. It is completely cycled, stable, and growing softies very nicely. I am not sure which fish to put in first though. Was thinking Clown Goby or a true Perc to kick things off. Now I eventually would like a manderin and I know they need lots of LR and 29gal is kinda small but by that point I will have a 'fuge and lots more LR. Anyway, my girl freind (who lives with me, so she gets a say on what goes in the tank...within reason) would like to have a PAIR of percs, not just one. They don't have to be a mated pair as I am not looking to breed clowns anytime soon. But they would be good company for each other, right? Anyway, is a 29gal tank to small for a pair (that is not reproducing) or is that just too small? Oppions, concerns, considerations, criticisms, and advice are all welcome.

Let me know, I'm gonna check around a little more and see what some different authors think.

Thanks alot!]

[I wouldn't add more than 3-4 small fish to a 29-gal and a manderin would never be one of them. I don't think the LR alone in a 29-gal could sustain the pod population needed for it.]

[Get the two percs. Leave the mandarin for when you get a larger system. I've got a 125 and i am still waiting till i think the pod-pullation is right before i adding a mandarin. 5 months down. I am thinking 2 more months and i will be fine.

[we had a Manderin in our 30 Gal a couple of years ago, we were buying Pods like most people buy salt. I agree with the other's, Nothing shy of a 125 for a manderin]

[Ya and at $20 a bottle for copepods is isn't near as cheap as salt! I suppose if you raised your own copepods on a large scale 20G you could attempt it but it is a ton of work and takes up a lot of space!]
