Ozonizer

dang, you beat me to it.. I was just about to post the same thing.. I've seen several in the 4sale forum; considered buying one but I'm worried about it killing off all the beneficial bacteria.
 
I started a thread about this last week in the SPS Corner forum.
 
I don't...but only because I've been too lazy to get it hooked up, over researching is just another form of procrastination lol

Can you provide a description of how you have it hooked up? Also the model that you are using?

I have the Red Sea Aqua Zone 100, Generator only. I use an Aqua controller Pro as the controller. The generator turns on at ORP of 300 and off at 350.

Before I got the reactor the ORP in the tank ran from 200 to 270.

I hooked up the reactor an ran it a 10%. With in 48hr the ORP was up to 370.
The water did clear up noticably.

Since then the ORP rearly drops under 350. (Its been about a year) and usually stays over 400. When I do a water change it dips a little, I notice the ORP has a sumwhat reverse relation with pH levels.

Would I purchase again? Yes. I would ge the smaller unit for sure.

Also its recomended you use a carbon filter at the air vents on the skimmer and carbon at the skimmer overflow.
 
I use an aquazone plus. It has a controller built in but I do not use it. I set the unit on about 30mg/hr(close to 300 gallon water volume) and let it run a couple days a week. It does make the water clearer but has zero effect on NO3 or PO4.
Also there are people that claim ozone makes your skimmer work more effiecntly. I disagree, when I run O3 my skimmer production is reduced by about 30-50% (I run a ER 5-3 and a ASM G4). Maybe it is because I dump the O3 directly into the skimmer venturi.

I like it because it is cheaper than running carbon and does not remove trace elements.
 
i also see reduced skimmate production when i use ozone, having the o3 input at the skimmer's venturi. since ozone breaks up the longer/bigger chains of organic molecules, the skimmer has to work harder to push up the skimmate. to compensate, i have to redial the skimmer a little to push the bubble levels a little higher.
