Overkill?

I'm setting up a 10 gallon tank right now and the only 20" lights I have are these: http://tinyurl.com/39ez6u Is 96 watts too much? Is it enough for any SPS?

you will be fine just mount the lights about 5 to 6 inches away from the surface so you get ventilation and it does not heat the tank to much. Sps should be fine.

IMO you could get away with Montipora Digitata and Montipora Capricornis and probably birdsnest but anything else would not do well. With the aforementioned corals you'd need to place them toward the top of the tank as well.

Well I set the tank up this morning. I was just curious about keeping all kinds of sps...I've never done it before. I'll probably just stick to the montipora and birdsnest. The main issue I was concerned about was my tank getting too hot. But after 6 hours with the lights on (not on a stand...directly on the tank) the temp is only 77 so it doesn't look like it will be a problem. Too much lighting wouldn't "burn" corals would it?

yes to much lighting can cause coarls to bleech.
do this.....the sps you choose make sure you find out the lighting, flow, placement, aggressivness and the relitive hardiness of it there are more factors to coarl health than just light

http://www.reefland.com is a good refence source for more in depth info about reef tanks.

hope this helps
good luck
