Overkill Frag Tank

I will be attending the University of Arkansas next year, and the frag tank was designed for college life. Small size and made of acrylic for mobility if needed. As the title says, the tank is a bit overkill, but thats not a bad thing right?

Tank: 20x16x8 AIO

Lighting: AI Vega Color

Heater: Cobalt Neo-Therm 75 W

Skimmer: IM DeskTop SkimMate

Powerhead: VorTech MP10 ES

ATO: CoralVue FW110

Return Pump: Maxi-Jet 900

I know having a bare bottom tank doesn't look the best. I went back and forth, but decided that ease of mobility was priority. As of now I plan on not having fish in the tank, but maybe ill add a clownfish when I have it set up in the dorm to avoid everyone saying "where's the fish?" then losing interest. I would like to add some interesting shrimp or other inverts eventually, but still trying to decide. Let me know what you think, and any ideas on what inverts you would add.

Thanks, Robby

I really like the tank. How are you liking the vega's? Are the corals taking to them? I ordered 2x for my 48x24x18. Wondering if I need a third.

The Vega is great! So far the corals look better than ever, but I haven't had it long enough to attest to growth. Two lights sound adequate for that size tank as the spread is quite nice, but i'm only dealing with 8 in of water. although I'm also only running the lights at 80% right now.

Like the idea. Was thinking bio-cube for when I head off to college in a dorm. That way the lid makes it harder for potential idiots to screw the tank up easily.

Definitely thought about potential hazards like that. I might want to start vodka dosing to get the corals acclimated to college. [smilie=lol.gif]

Put together a frag rack this week, and picked up a nice Chili Pepper Monti as an early Christmas present to myself.

Any reason for 80%? Were you burning them above that? I ask because I noticed the default is 80%. Curious if there was a reason the manufacture did that. I know it will extend the life.

I went with 80% because that was the factory default. I'm not sure the difference 100% will make, but I decided to start at a lower percentage and increase if needed. Because the tank is shallow I don't think the light needs to be any brighter, and so far my SPS seem happy.

I just got mine and was planning on ramping them up to 100%, but I decided to add a 3rd. So I may settle back on 80-90%. I must say I am a little worried about switching from MH. (smiley crossing his fingers.)

(Hope this isn't distracting your thread...? It seemed generic, but say so if I am.)

Looks good, how are you liking the skimmer? I just installed mine a couple days ago... Where'd you get that tank at? I love AIO tanks.

Im not sure how i like the skimmer yet, I still have very little bio load and i'm not getting any skimmate. I ordered the tank off ebay from "acrylicaquariumsuppliers"
