--- Overflow box without inside box? --- Would it work?

Just a siphon, and an outside overflow box. Then a hole towards the top to control water level and send the water to the fudge (or whatever).

Would this work? Would the hole location on the outside box control the water level? (ie where the hole is, is how high the water gets on the main tank).... or do you HAVE TO have an inside box?

i am guessing no. The shipon will drain faster then the hole in the box.

And after the eltricity goes out and the pump turns back on, nothing will start the shipon again. Probably causing a flood, and or pump burn out.

It might or might not be functional--I don't know, but I don't think you really want to do that anyway. Without a surface skimming mechanism you'll end up with a film of gunk on the surface of the water. Unattractive and harmful.

Your diagram is not surface skimming either. Technically speaking it is pulling water below the water surface. If it was to surface skim, it would break siphon.

If you used the inside box you gain the surface skim function.

No, it will not work and is a ticking time bomb. You'll end up flooding the flooring and possibly start an electrical fire. You must have a box inside and outside, or drill the tank.

With a drilled tank, you can use an external overflow (or external Durso Standpipe application), or an internal overflow with drains to the sump.
