Over flow bulk head leaking

I just finished draining the tank and pulled out the sump to install a waterproof liner to go along with the new hard wood floors and noticed that one of the drain bulk heads is now loose from cutting some PVC and was wondering the best way to prevent it from leaking when refilling the tank. I can't find my bulk head wrench so off to Home Depot I go. Should I look into replacing the entire overflow return and drain or just re tighten and hope the seal is still good?

Just stop at a fish store and buy a new bulkhead they are pretty cheap

Sent from inside the shark tank!

Sounds like a winner to me. Now the car won't start due to the weather. Looks like a new car battery as well.

You can use a flat head screw driver and a hammer. Not typically advise I give, as it can be easy to tighten too tight, but as long as you stop driving when the screwdriver starts to penetrate the nut you shouldn't have any issues. Otherwise, yep! Just snag ya a new bulkhead. :)

Sorry, but do not use a hammer and screwdriver on your bulkhead.. They should be hand tightened, maybe a quarter turn with a large wrench more. Nothing else. Hitting it with a hammer will over tighten it which causes leaks itself, not to mention the possibility to crack your tank. it can happen. Replacing it to get a new rubber gasket and make sure the seal is good is your best bet. Also be sure to clean the inside thoroughly so there is nothing in between the bulkhead and the tank.

channel locks work well. Don't use a hammer near glass!

If it doesn't correct the problem with 1/4 turn past hand tension get a new bulkhead and/or seal.
