Over filtration, is there such thing?

Is it possible to over filter your tanks water? Let me tell you about my nano tank setup. I got two 10 gallon tanks connected, over/under metal stand. This is a start to a mini reef with only couple mushrooms, brown polyups and star polyups coral. My other fauna is 3 green chromis, snails and hermit crabs. I do have macro algae in the display and in the bottom tank. My display tank has live rock. Now my skimmer is a cpr backpack packed with bio media powered by a maxijet 1200. Here is where I'm being told that I'm over filtering my tank because it moves too much volume for my little setup. I was told to keep it off for a day when I feed the coral Marine Snow and DTs Phytoplankton. The venturi nozzle I have on the maxijet does have adjustment where I can choke back the flow. What kind of flow should I have for my tanks and how long should I run the skimmer?

Regards,

Robert

I suppose you could make a tank sterile enough that some softies wouldnt do as well in it, but relative to mother nature, our tanks are always going to be dirty.

If there is macro algae and is growing then you are not over filtering the tank. True ultra low nutrient systems (ulns) you would not be able keep macro algae. I would keep the skimmer on 24/7.

True Zeovit tanks are ulns systems and macro algae and zoanthids just die as there are no nutrients in the tank so they starve.

Also with those corals no reason to dose marine snow and phyto
