Outdoor metal halide flood light

Ok I have a outdoor metal halide flood light that I purchased to go over my garage but It will not work for what I wanted curious is there a was to convert it to aquarium use to use over my tank. Like poss just replacing the buld with a 10k bulb maybe retro fitting the reflector and light it the tank. I have included a simular picture of one I found on the internet. It is a 250 watt setup..

oh ok, I am new to halide lighting and just did not want the light to go to waste. so is it that If I put a 10k bulb in it it will not fire or it will kill the life of the bulb? Those bulbs are pretty costly and dont want to buy one and it blows on me or something..

It is most likely a probe start ballast which is OK. The key is matching the lamp wattage to the fixture/ballast. The correct wattage bulb (250W) at 10K should light with the fixure. Might need to modify for heat dissipation.

Just make sure that the lamp you posted is in fact a MH lamp and not a Mercury Vapor MV ballast. If it is it still may work but do your research knowing exactly what you are workign with. A lot of shop lights are actually MV ballasts.

yeah this one is metal halide I started taking it apart to see what if anything I can do with it without messing up how it works so I can always default to using it out in the yard somewhere. I try to post pics of inside and ballast later
