Ordered my new lights - I am so excited!

[I decided to order the maristar pendant with 2X250DE HQI and 2x54 T5 actinic. I knew I could not bare to see my tank with 10k's over it so I upgraded to the Giesemann 14.5 Megachrome. I hope this setup is worth it, it better look good! Now I just need to find a nice tank before I move. Maybe I will be like marc and order a starphire. :lookaround:]

[Did you get the black fixture? I can tell you they look very sharp aesthetically. (although, I don't know about plugged in yet...my fixtures are still waiting on the tank to get here). :)]

[No such thing :p Most others have been in the hobby far longer than I. My original setup was very simple. As time has passed I have upgraded in different areas but my tank is still C or b- level. I think that is part of the reason you dont hear from peter, his tank already has the bells and whistles. :cool grin: As for marc I dont know how he pulled off the coup of DFWMAS history. That tank is going to be truely awesome.]

[It was no coupe (I think that is the spelling, but it might be coup). When I found out what was going on with the tank, and that it was up for sale, I immediately contacted Linuxfisher because he had been shopping for over a month already. With all of our conversations, I was sure he'd love that setup, and thus all worked out well.

When Gary changed his mind, he was going to put it up for sale on the forum, and at that point I decided I was crazy to pass up on the deal. So far, all is working out nicely. However, it has only been 8 days. :D]

[It is coup d'état and yes anytime a 280 starphire sales without hitting the board it is a coup d'état :laugh long:

if anyone sees or hears of a 200ish cube for sale, please let me know. I want something that looks like peters but larger. What is the point in having a super nice pendant if you dont have a super nice tank to hang it over? :rool eyes:]

[Mitch with a 280 or bigger you could use 2 $1000 pendants :D

Should be nice. Be sure and post pics when it comes in!]

[I was thinking about 60X36x20(187) maybe 72X36X20 (224 gallons) I really want the tank 24 inches tall but was told it would be hard to look at... I talked to scott at SWP to see where he got his 10 foot acrylic tanks but he said he was not very happy with them and I could get a nicer custom job elsewhere.]

[Really nice light, Mitch. Where in the world are going to put another tank? Are you planning on getting rid of one?

Yeah when I saw that thread about the tank, I thought darn somebody was giving away a really nice setup, at a real good price. Sometimes you have to be in the right place at the right time.
:beerchug:]

[Mitch, save up the money for it now, and when you get a new house (thought you were talking about it) get a nice 48x48x30 cube. Put it in a corner wall, so 2 sides are visable :D

4 feet viewable from the front and one side

What would be hard to look at about a 24" tank? As long as its on a tall (40"?) stand]

[Rick, When I move I would like to buy a new tank and just move the contents of my current tank over. I want to have a large third bedroom to convert to fish room. Then 100 will either be converted to FO or mostly likely sold to help recoup expenses.

I talked to Mitch at interamerican and he said he would build me a 60(or 72)X36X20 with polished edges (no molding),starphire all around and stand(36inches) for about 1600$ shipped. Any opinions on tank size and total height?]

[:cussing: :taz: @#@$@# UPS screwed up and left either my ballasts or my fixture on the dock and now it wont arrive until Monday. I am so :very angry:]

[That tank and stand sound nice, Mitch. Remember to add an inch for plywood and foam between the stand and tank.]

[So when you planning on moving? And where? And I guess you are talking about a 20" high tank? I do not see that as a problem it will get your lights really close to corals. The height of the stand really depends on whether you want to stand straight and look at the tank. Or whether you want to be able to see down on top of the reef.]

[I really would like to do both. I would liek to tank to look nice standing there but would like to be able to look down on it without standin on tip toes or needing a latter. I really wanted the tank 24 deep but I am walking a fine line to be able to do both.

I plan on moving in the area and am meeting with an agent on sunday.

Another problem how to set this up in the middle of a room? The ballast wire are 15 feet and I was thinking I could braid them with the hanging wires and put ballst into ceiling. How hard would it be to put a electric box in the attic? i dont want to run cords under the carpet or across the floor.]

[You have to some major power source under the tank. I doubt you want to run all the power cords down from the ceiling.]

[It can't be anymore power than I am tryin to pull with my current setup. With the tunzes for movement and the new lights I should be well under the max 1800 watts.

So what are you thoughts to remedy this if it wont work?]
