Orange spotted goby vs. Yellow watchman goby

I was just thinking about what kind of fish I want to put into my 46 gallon bow front. I was planning on a goby to help keep the sand bed stirred up. I had a orange spotted goby in my 55 then he moved to my 125 gallon. I know they do a great job of moving the sand around and they look pretty cool doing it. I have never sen a yellow watchman goby in action. I have seen pictures of them in a burrow. My orange spotted used to dig burrows under the live rock but he also swam around the bottom filtering sand all day. Will the yellow watchman do it also? I also think from pictures that the yellow watchman stays smaller. Is this true? Since I only have a 46 gallon small fish is very imporant to me.

I would go with an orange diamond goby. I don't think a tank should be without a diamond goby. Mine and all the others I have seen constantly sift the sand and keep the sand low in the tank so it doesn't create a sand storm. I have a yellow watchman goby in my nano cube and never seem him sifting sand except for making a home under a rock. Definitely go with diamond goby.

I know what you mean. The orange spotted ones sift all day long. I liek them also but was lookign to get something different. We will see.

Yeah but the diamond goby is the only one that I have seen that consistantly stays low as it sifts that sand so as to not create a sandstorm.

I guess I thought the orange spotted goby was the same thing as the orange diamond goby. I had the diamond one in my other tanks. They do a great job but I was lookign for something different that does the same thing.

you might consider trying a yellow-headed sleeper goby. All mine did was filter sand all day long. Before you add one think about it hard b/c one thing I did regret was that I really wasn't able to keep things like fungias or lobos, etc. on the sand bed b/c mine was real bad about getting sand on everything. He kept the sand bed clean but my clams have been happier since he died (weird occurrence, no apparent reason, had the fish for 1 year, everything else was fine, all parameters were fine).

yeah..my orange diamond used to get sand on my plate coral i had on the bottom of my tank.....i just used to aim some good flow at it to keep it clean or i would manually clean the coral off.
