Opinion on Cuprisorb and my copper tank.

If you havent read all my stupid posts on my copper infested fw tank i will be suprised but through a little wondering around on the web i read about Cuprisorb. They claim it will get all leaching copper out of a tank eventually. Does anyone think that after lets say 1 month of nothing but the tank and ro water with 4 or so polyfilters and 500ml of Cuprisorb then constant Cuprisorb i would be safe to add my setup slowly to this tank? Everyone says the low cost of the tank compared to everything else but to me the bigest cost is the tank since i am a diyer and can do all my electrical and fab work myself. I mean i built my light system for my 70 for less than 150 after the cost of bulbs.

what size tank is it? And how much money will you spend on all the products that may take the copper out? You can usally find really good deals on used tanks.

180 gallons and i am willing to spend around 100 bucks to get it out. Including if no other option works resealing if i can get some experienced help.

Resealing is a real PIA, but there's really no trick to it. Just very time consuming and very labor intensive. If you are a good DIY'er, you can do it. I had the same thing as you, a previous FW tank. The blue tint to the silicone was an indicator that something had been used in the tank. I didn't know whether it was stained from copper or something with a dye like methylene blue. I could never detect any copper, but didn't want to chance it. I stripped out all of the old silicone, cleaned all residue off of the glass with acetone and a plastic scrubber, used blue tape to mask, and GE Silicone I to reseal. Worked like a champ. Not as professional as someone who seals tanks all day for a living, but very acceptable.

so you didnt find any copper? I was told by a very reputable source that the malecite that stains it blue wasnt a problem just the copper. I dont really want to do the silicone thing but if i dont detect copper what advantage would i gain? I know that in thoery its a piece of cake but if i mess up one little thing the results could be at least even more time consuming and if i never get it right all i have is a big piece of glass or at worst alot of water and shattered glass.

I was worried about copper leaching back out over time. Coincidentally, when I stripped the filets of silicone out, there was a deep color deep penetrating about halfway into the bead, so I was glad I had done it. The silicone holding the 1/2" panes together was unstained and very solid, so I wasn't too concerned with them coming apart after resealing.

so back to my original question if i did get the copper out of the system for the most part and then made precautionary measures to deal with the posibility of slow leakage from the silicone wouldnt i be safe. If you cant tell i really dont want to reseal my tank. Dont have an overabundance of time on my hands.

I couldn't tell you. You might be 100% safe, but who knows. It's a little bit of a crap shoot at this point. :? Sorry I can't be more positive than that.
