Open brain problems

[hi

i have an open brain (green) that came with the tank i bought a little while ago - at any rate, he is quite beautiful and about 6-8" in diameter - i love it - at any rate, lately, on one side, the tissue doesn't inflate as much as the other areas and is pulled down close to the skeleton - and the tissue along the junction between the segments is a puckered ... it seems to do this after all the lights come on - my guess is that it is getting too much light - previous owner had it a little lower in the tank, but with more wattage - i have it a little higher with less wattage, but i am using halides (he used pcs) ... i rearranged a lot today to get him a little lower in the tank - does it sound like it is basically due to too much light?? anything else i should be wary of?

thanks - i will be upgrading to a new tank in 4-6 months, at which point i will move him lower, but for the time being, this is the best i can do - if he is still puckered up, could i make an screen and place over him like a shade to help?? any suggestions? thanks

[It might be in too much flow. Are you feeding it mysis or anything yet?]

[hmm, it could be the flow - i do have a tunze - i will see about trying to place some rocks around it to cut down on the flow - i have been target feeding it with phyto at night after the lights go off - when should i feed the mysis and how?? thanks marc]

[Open brain corals have a mouth. I would drizzle some food over the oral disc area at night, and plan on guarding it from other crabs or shrimp. Turn off the pumps during the feeding to keep the food there.

It can take some corals an hour to eat the food, and still have a shrimp steal it in seconds by reaching into the mouth and pulling the food right back out!

Look at your coral at night, and see if you can target feed it some meaty foods.]
