[Just wanted you guys to see what they look like. Rick can tell you all about them and the 'cure'. :uhoh:

[Yes. I only have maybe two pieces that these guys like, so I'll be okay. I might try to treat the corals in question only, even if there are more in the tank.]

[And I'm going to let you do all the 'splainin' as the questions occur in this thread. :rasp:]

[Wait a minute! Aren't you they guy that kept swearing that you didn't have any red bugs? :p I would be shocked if anyone that has kept SPS for long, especially if some or all of their pieces were aquired as frags, didn't have them on a few of their corals.]

[In defense of whoever supplied that coral, most people IMO, like Marc, do not realize that they have red bugs. As you prooblay know, you really have to know what you are looking for to see them. I never thought I had them either, until "The Bug Master" pointed them out to me a couple of years ago. I have since eliminated them, at least as of now.]

[It would be nice if they came out with something that killed them quickly! The problem now is it takes weeks of treatments so it's extremely hard to do anything proactivly to frags and new corals (except a q tank treated with it I guess).

If they could make something like FWE where it is pretty much instant death that woul help tremendously as you could just dip all you incoming SPS.

I can dream can't I.

I'm afraid to take a close up of my acros now. There is one that's poylps don't extend nearly as well as all my others and it is that light cream color and kind they tend to target. I'll have to get the diopters out and zoom and see what I can see!]

[He treated his tank with Interceptor. There is plan of action started by Dustin with ORA that involves treating your tank with Interceptor three times over a period of about 6 weeks. The problem is that it can also kill all crabs, shrimp, and pods.]

[Since they stick to specific corals, there is a good chance others do not have them from our workshop or frag swap. Rick told me it focuses on smooth tissue acros.

Plus, there is the possibility you already had it in your system anyway.]

[Every coral I get goes through a 6 hour Interceptor quarantine. I dose it at several times the recommended tank strength.]

[Hey steve did you keep a copy of the research/articles you showed the vet to get interceptor? I think that would be very useful info for many!]

[Steve, I plan to treat the affected corals at this point, rather than my reef. It is simply too new a set up and the majority of my livestock is fine.

I talked to my vet today via telephone, and she's selling me a 6-blister pack without issue. It was actually fairly straight forward, after I explained what I needed and what it was for, she didn't ask for any more information. I'll get it tomorrow.

I'll be re-reading the information in that link you posted to get all my facts straight. Basically, I'll set up a 10g quarantine tank with reef water and the coral, and put a PC light over it as that is all I have. I plan to keep it in there for 6 hours, then put it back in the reef tank. I just have to figure out how much I'll need to use. I might be able to get the vet to mash it to powder for me. Have you figured out an easy way to measure the dose? For example, will a salifert spoon be the right amount for 10g of water?]

[if your are going to treat,, you have to do the entire system. These bugs are just like copepods that hide in the rocks. Doing just part of the corals will not benefit and only frustrate you . You have to do the entire system to affectivley clean them out. I have help do several treatments and the water changes to go along with them...these red bugs are no more than a different flavor pods you watch at 3 am... so they are in the substrate......

[Marc,

I thought that I would share my experience.

I have treated my sps tank twice, one week apart. The biggest hassel is water change. 25% of 200 gallon (sump included) is 50 gallon, in my case.

My tiger pistol shrimp survived both treatment. Small acro-crabs did not make it - but fish, corals, everything else seems okay.

[Well I knew I probably had them and looked around closely today and saw them on 2 acros of mine! Don't know if I'll tackle treatment or not at the moment!
