Today while doing a water change I measured my ph and it read 7.6. Way too low. So for some STUPID reason I dumped a cup of lime in the tank, shooting it up beyond my 8.6ph scale!

Everything in my tanks closed up and expelling gunk, SPS's not looking so hot, BTA's melting.......

Whats there to do?
Got some water to do another water change DONE
Got some PHDown DONE
????

Whats a safe scale to reduce the PH, or should i just try to reduced it drastically then try to dial it in?

HELP! Thanks

You should be safe to adjust it .2 at a time. I have never had to make a drastic change quickly, but I think you may be alright adjusting it .2 every few hours or so. This is only a guess though. the .2 change at a time is solid advice but I can't say for sure how much time in between.

A Ph of 8.5-8.6 is optimum though. IMHO I would shoot for that range as you adjust it.

I've done something similar before, and dosing vinegar saved me...

I'd add a small amount (I'm talking 10 mL here) to your system, give it a few minutes to circulate and retest the pH... (Depending on how big your system is, of course)

Last time I massively overdosed kalk, my pH was off the scale high, and adding I believe it was around 150 mL total to my 250 gallon system brought the pH down into the 8's at least...

Be very careful that you don't overshoot and go too low either though, it's quite easy to do!
