Ok, someone give the the skinny on mushroom corals...

I read that Marc has had some issues with them and I am also having some. I thought these were easy corals to keep.... My water is fine and am looking for another explination. Any need to knows for mushroom corals in general?

I believe Marc and others were talking about how mushrooms take over and kill other corals. I'm sure they don't want any shrooms in the big displays. :?

ohh.... that must have been marc issue, I woudltn figure that he woudl have any strange coral deaths but I read that he was having problems with them and was curious as to what it was because mine suck right now.

Mushrooms are ok in a display tank. My problem is keeping them in check. They will take over a rock the back glass land on your prize SPS and pretty much smother them. The good part about it is if you not lazy you can control them. I on the other hand since I am self employed in Telecommunications and guide fishing trips I hardly feel like it at times. I try to cull them back once a month but needs to be done atleast 2 times a month. I just throw them in the sump and trade them in down the road. Or when I frag other stuff I give them to people when they come over. If I had to do all over again. I wouldn't for the exception of Ricordias they do not multiply as fast.

Yes, they used to take over my 29g. You can see them on this page:

I have given away hundreds of them, and killed hundreds more. All from the original four that I purchased. If you don't care much and enjoy having these in your tank, you can look forward to tons of them if they have enough time to spread.

They are pretty much indestructible.

I do the same thing that Catfish does...cut them back once a month and throw them down in the sump. The usually stick to some rubble within a week and I trade them in for some store credit. It's free salt or corals for me!
