octopus skimmer question

I had a large Octopus skimmer installed and was not paying attention to the install and now I want to empty the cup and it is not coming off easily so I am asking just exactly where do you remove the cup from? There is a black ribbed rim beneath the cup do I try to loosen that (I have tried to no avail) or does the cup just pop out like my other skimmers. Thanks in advance. I am afraid that the guy that installed it might have tightened it too much so a girl cannot get it off like they like to do the lug nuts on my tires!!

Can you take a picture of it? I have 2 different Octopus Skimmers, one small (110 model) and another large (500 model). Both are just quick release cups. Just pull it straight off. You will have to wiggle it a bit, moving it side-to-side as you lift.
 
ok I have removed it from the sump and made a mess and there is nothing "quick" release about it for me at least

it looks like an older octopus model. In addition, it looks to have a release like the Euro-Reef skimmers. If I remember correctly, you unscrew them like a half a turn, then they come off. The new octopus skimmer cups pull right off.
 
That looks just like my old Euro-Reef which I would love to sell :). 1/4 turn and then lift straight up
