Now I am getting really concerned

You monitoring the temperature through the night? Are you running carbon or anything else? Either temperature swings or something in the water they aren't testing for maybe.

Sure it was diatoms and not Dino's?? How are your snails doing and the other inverts?

If you are running a skimmer you should be getting enough O2 into the system, but you may consider opening the door or windows for a bit to get some air exchange going in the house just in case.

Stay voltage is a possibility... you can check that with a voltage meter. I've not done it myself, so I can't tell you how its done.

I'd also run some poly filter in the sump and see if you get any color changes on it.

The Powder brown was still alive in the refugium this morning but not strong enough to swim so and it finally died a little later. Don't think its Dinos said:
Polyfilter... any of the saltwater stores should carry it. It comes in pads and you put it in the sump or under your overflows.
