setting up a 29 gallon freshwater tank

1. My tank has been running for 6 days now, no fish in it just rocks and a few fake plants. I have the "bubble wand" under my rocks as well a powerhead to keep things moving and airated, but I have noticed a lot of small bubbles blowing around in the watter. Why aren't they floating up? Also plants are collecting bubblesywhere. When fish are introduced down the road will this continue?

2. I'm using "Cycle" to help along the cycle process, at what point should i changeor ad water? after the cycle?

3. I have a 4-5" fancy goldfish and would like to have it with some other tropical fish when the tank gets ready. Right now it's him a molly and a Plecostomus.... Temp should be set in what range to accomidate the gold fish and the tropical?

4. What hazards (other than high amonia frum the goldfish) do i run into w/ the above combo?

thats all for now, more to come... thanks for the help

I used to keep freshwater tanks. Honestly, I just used tap water, put in some chlorine remover, let it sit for an hour, then put the fish in. I rarely ever had losses. If I lost something, it would be to an aggressive fish. I never concerned myself with a cycle with freshwater. I bought my neice 2 goldfish for her last birthday. I did as I mentioned above and they are still fine. Although she likes to overfeed them. :D

Not a clue, never ran a powerhead in my freshwater tanks.

Wait 2 weeks total and do a 50% water change, you have already been running for amost a week so I would give it about another week.

Gold fish usually prefer cooler temps I believe somewhere around 75* but if you are planning on keeping it with other tropical fish it will be fine running at 77-78*

4. What hazards (other than high amonia frum the goldfish) do i run into w/ the above combo?

As long as you are keeping community fish you shouldn't have any other problems.

Hope this helps. It's been a while since I kept FW but I think I am remembering correctly.

VAnessa, It is not wise to mix tropical with goldfish keep one of the other. The both have different dietary needs and also water paramaters. Goldfish slim also tends to be somewhat "toxic"(for lack of a better term) to tropicals.

turn off the bubble wand, with the powerhead, you wont need it except for looks. you will need some sort of filter though. i suggest either an undergravel or power filter. you can get both from wal-mart pretty cheap

i agree, 2 weeks

i never suggest mixing goldfish with tropical, but then again, i hate goldfish with a pink and purple passion

i would get the molly a mate, it will be much happier and you will soon have lots of babies
