ok so my 1st question if i don't want to do coral do i have to do live rock i understand its benefits for the fish and ego system if I cant get away without it where can I get it cheap im just setting up a small 25 to 30 gallon bow front tank going to go with 2 clown fish and a Flame Angelfish any suggestions what else would be good for starters

people are selling live rock on here all the time. or go to the Buy section and make a post that your willing to buy live rock

Dead dry rock becomes live after a while. But go on and get at least one or two live pieces to speed the process. You must have the bacteria and pods that associate with live rock even if you don't have coral. You did want some rock if for no other purpose than decoration right? It is available here pretty cheap.

Welcome, Chris!

As others have said, the beneficial bacteria that eats up the ammonia and nitrite in your system attaches itself to rock, so I'd recommend going with rock in your tank.

Dallas North Aquarium had some nice porous dry rock on sale last time I was there. Something like $1.29 or $1.39 per lb. You won't need much for your size tank. 25-30 lbs would do it. It's dry rock, so get some BioSpira and/or live sand to get the bacteria going and help cycle your tank. BioSpira is live bacteria in a bottle that you just pour in the tank. It really gets things up and running quickly!

If you've paid for membership but don't have your card yet, just show them the email receipt for your membership payment. That worked for me before I got my card in the mail.
