New to saltwater

I've been into freshwater for about 2 years, researched saltwater for the last 6 months. I decided to get into it when a friend gave me his 115g rr tank and the url for DFW MAS. I've read many forums and articles, this is a great site!!

I've had my tank set up and running for about a week now. Bought 100 lbs of live rock and I'm trying a DSB. I have 2 Koralia #2. I test it daily with the quick dip strips but not sure if that is the best. The readings are coming back as safe - 0 except for nitrite which reads 20. My salinity is at 1.022.

Am I on the right track?

Thanks so much!!

You sure are and those dip tests work just fine. I've used those in the past and they are accurate without spending a fortune on a test kit. But no worries, your numbers will be on and off for another few weeks since you are still cycling the tank.

Just sit back, let it cycle and take a magnifying glass to your live rock and watch them come to life so to speak. You'll see organisms start to grow and such. A good next step is when you start seeing algea growth on your glass, a good amount, pick up some snails to take care of it. If you start to get hair algea, pick up some crabs or shrimp to handle that.

Good luck and start posting pics of your tank!
