I know there are PLENTY of disadvantages to starting a tank from scratch but what are all of the Advantages? I am looking at starting on about 55-100 Gallons... Most likely a 75. Reef tank for sure. said:
I can't really think of any disavantages with starting a tank from "scratch". Do you mean compared to buying a pre-existing setup?? Starting from scratch has numerous advantages, the biggest being that you know what you have and chose exactly what you want, instead of trying to use what someone else thought was good. What you don't want to do is buy someone else's problem/mistake, without doing your due diligence with research, you can easily make a costly mistake buying something that sound's like a good deal. Research is your friend, start it before making any purchase on any equipment or livestock. If you see a good deal, get the equipment list and research them online or ask us for advice, that will enable you to then make an educated decision .
