New Tank Cycle.

I read some where on here that one can add some kind of biological product to a new tank to get the cycle going faster than usual. Anyone knows of such product and is it safe to use?

frozen shrimp...

a cup of sand from an established tank.

regular fish food.

will all kick off some decomposition, the rise of ammonia in the water, and the corresponding growth of nitrifying bacteria.

Quick-Start / Quick Cycle solutions are largely snake-oil and you'll generally get much better results from a slow cycle.

There was a product that Frank from Frank's Tank's tried and as I recall, it actually worked. I think it came down to being a good way to cycle a QT tank but not the best way to start a tank out with. I would use good ol' fashion patience....along with a dead shrimp.

Cheers,

I've heard that the quick cycling products for the most part aren't worth the trouble. A piece of shrimp and patience is much more efficient.
