New scwd - Having problems

[i just setup a brand new scwd and already it has been making crackling noises..what is the cause of this??

and secondly its been producing tiny micro bubbles inside my tank..not much but is noticable, but could the noise be contributing on making the micro bubbles???]

[Try unplugging your pump for 10 seconds, then restart it.]

[..i tried restarting but it still produce the same noise and bubbles..

have you had any experience w/ putting a 90 degree fitting on the intake of the pump so that it is directed downwards?? will that cause restrictions on the flow or possibly cause impeller to overdrive??]

[All my mag return pumps have the 90 degree on them. Have not noticed that being a problem. Did you use clamps on the barb fittings for the scwd. Air could be getting in there if not.]

[Yeah I'm hoping my scwd comes in soon. I'm thinking of trying the open loop first before I do the closed loop. Any reasons why closed loop is better?]

[I don't have a closed loop (yet) but I think the main advantage is a LOT of circulation without having to bring it down to the sump shoot it through the sump causing more circulation in the sump than you want and bring it back up to the tank (head pressure).]

[A closed loop cannot overflow or flood. That is the largest advantage I know of. They can increase circulation as well, depending on the pump(s) you use.

But primarily it is the safety of it that is so attractive. This allows you to put outlets anywhere in your tank without fear of draining your tank on a power outage.

No siphons...

[I had the same problem with my scwd for a while. It worked perfectly for a week and then it started "clicking". I thought that it just had some air in the lines but I could never figure out where. All of the sudden it just stopped...??? Maybe it was air and it finally worked its way out, but I moved the sqwd around trying to dislodge bubbles and restarted the pump with no help. Who knows!]

[yeaa..mine worked fine for a day or so then it started to click..i currently have teflon tape on all the joints because this is not a permenant setup that i want.. im running it through a mag 9.5 return not close loop so i plan on upgrading the setup to a mag12 and 2 more outlets.]
