New sand q's - Need to rinse?

[Ok, I have been doing that. I just wanted to make sure i did not need to do anything else.
This is for my new 46G Bowfront

Thanks for the help]

[I always just stick mine in. I've set up 3 tanks this way and never washed. It leaves a cloud for a couple weeks but then the bacteria weigh it down!

Short answer is I don't think it matters.

On RC some people swear by not rinsing others swear by rinsing. That leads me to believe either works. The logic for not washing is that you get smaller grain sizes which is good for some bacteria. Logic for washing is you don't get a 2 week sandstorm and those little grains don't matter.]

[I rinsed my sand in a bucket and pulled out all of the shells and rocks. I had a nice big bowl of unwanted items when I was done, so if you don't want that stuff I would advise rinsing.

:D]

[Depends what kind of sand it is and how fine and silty it is.

I regret not rinsing my southdown, and acually did end up rinsing it after the tank was setup, by means of filling and emptying the tank with fresh water about 6-8 times, stirring the sand as it drained. My sidewalk in front of my house is now stained white with araganite lol

My 75 I setup with silica sand, which isnt as fine as southdown. This I did not rinse, and it was clear in a week.]
