New RR tank - bulkhead question

My tank has finally arrive and is sitting in my office.

This is my first RR tank and I have a few bulkhead questions.

The holes measure 1 1/2" and 1 3/4" (the larger looks a little under that but I think it is the angle I'm at when measuring).

Questions:

1. I think this means I need a 3/4" and 1" bulkhead. Is that correct?

2. Is there anything special I need to do to install them? Should I put a bead of silicon calk around the inside?

3. Where is a good place to get something like this in north Dallas (Carrollton) area? Is something I get at a hardware store the same as one from an Aquarium store?

Thanks!

Al

i did not put silicone.....you use teflon tape though...hand tight is very important as if you over tighten you can crack the glass. elliots harware carries them but they are heavy duty type that i perfer they are not cheap...but have thicker washers....

i know fish gallery sells them too but the less expensive type...if you want you can buy the whole kit which includes all the pipes and fitings....

you know if sign up as a dfwmas member you get 10% discout at majority of the lfs in the area...so it pays for itself if you purchase anything throughout the year

DNA carries them as well. You want to make sure to smear a thin coat of vaseline on the gasket, and make sure the gasket is on the inside of the overflow box, not the nut side. The vaseline lets you hand tighten the nut without pinching or otherwise kinking the gasket.

one thing i forgot to tell you check the price at the lfs as i think it is just alittle cheaper than the schedule 80 thicker bulkheads that elliots hardware carries.

I picked up the fittings at DNA (expensive).

So, vaseline on the gasket and put the gasket inside the tank.

Teflon on the threads and hand tighten.

Thanks again!
