Let's say you had (2) Non RR Tanks with overflow boxes draining to one large sump. The sump is Skimmer/Return/Refugium design.
One tank is a 15g "Display Refugium" while the other is my 54g Reef. The simplest plumbing design would be to drain the 54 to my skimmer section & the Display Refugium to my refugium section of the sump.
All the water meets in the middle return section & is split to both tanks. Seems simple enough. Does it work?
A more complicated route would be to join the drains & direct 75% to the skimmer & a slower 25% to the refugium section. However, I'm a little baffled on exactly how to join the drains & keep water flowing to the sump. Seems I would need to increase pipe diameter after joining the drains.
I'll let you guys take it from here...
