New juvi sailfin

[I stopped by Aquarium Mart today to get a jug of top-off water and came home with an adorable juvi sailfin tang! I always have a hard time finding small fish, but would prefer to start with them (I like the theory that they'll fit in better with my tank if I start them off small!).

Anyway, he's my first new fish (besides the poor flame angel) in nearly two years, so I just need to celebrate a little.

In case anyone is on the lookout for brown or blue powders, they have one of each and they are GORGEOUS!!!]

[Congratulations Misty! Try to feed it twice a day.]

[Right now, I do have some algae in the tank (both micro and macro)...should I feed additionally if that is still there?]

[If you are hoping it will clean the tank, you can hold off a bit, but if it avoids that stuff and begins too look too thin, you better start putting sheets of Nori in there for it to feed upon.

I did that in Gary's tank while he was out of town, and the fish snacked on it for hours. He has a big tank, like a 120 or so (big to me anyway) and I'd take one sheet of the stuff and fold it over and over and over until it was a small thick piece about the shape of a matchbook, and clipped it on the glass each day.

Because your fish is young, you can take a small piece 2" x 4" and fold that once and clip it on the glass. When the fish realizes it is safe to eat and gets used to it, you can increase the amount you clip on, as needed.

When I had my tang and angel, I clipped a piece on every morning, and fed my home made food every evening and everyone looked fat and happy.]

[Misty,

Not sure if you have a fuge or not. But if so, if you would like to give your Tang some of his natural diet and grow it yourself then I would suggest that you get some sargassum or some Tang heaven from IPSF which is a seaweed from the hawaii. Adding this to your sump will do nothing but benefit your whole system. Live food for your herbivorous fish, is 100% better then dry or frozen foods. Dry and frozen foods loose alot of nutrients and such. But its a suggestion to save money and grow your own food for your herbivorous fish. Hope this helps]
