We are just waiting for them to go public. They are going to be released in March, 06 it seems. Beta Testers are going to start getting their units soon, according to the stuff I've read in that thread.

They aren't really "Ice Cap" pumps. THey are just backing them to get them manufactured. They are actually Ecotech Marine pumps. The guys that created the pumps got pretty bent out of shape when their vortech pump was referred to as an ice cap pump. :D

Yes, here is the video:

Marc, are these the same pumps you were talking about at the meeting at Fish Paradise? They look like they put out quite alot of flow. I would be interested in seeing one in person.

The flow will be controllable from 100gph to 3100gph. They will be less than a Tunze Stream, I've been told. The controller will talk to up to 10 of them wirelessly, and there is a battery back up feature that will keep it spinning for 36 hours if the power goes out.

I'm sure these features are extra, btw, not all including with the unit.

The latest pictures posted on RC look awesome.

i agree, from what i have read on these, there is a lot of potential - they appear to have almost all of the features of the tunze, minus the power cord, heat transfer - plus, they are really easy to mount and place - have the battery backup feature - big bonus in my mind - and, if they are a little cheaper, then good - plus, they have icecap backing them - hello warranty and good service

i emailed them and they are saying march to april - so, maybe may is a good time frame

Only thing I can see being a fault of them is that they sit on the outside of the glass. I just think that if you don't have your tank as an in wall tank it will look wierd having something like that sticking out on the side of the aquarium with power cord. Now if they made some kind of deflector to direct flow right and left so that you could put it on the back wall would be good.

You're right, but IMO big pumps in the tank look wierd too!

Also, after reading some of the RC post, I noticed that Marc had a lot of good ideas which Eco-Tech responded to in favor and appreciation. I wouldn't be surprised if our very own President will have a beta tester in his tank.

i agree that the idea of them being on the outside is less than idea, i would have to say i would prefer that to having them inside - in fact, i have changed my mind and i think i will be going with these as opposed to a closed loop approach - but, time will tell

Since the outside part is about the size of a hockey puck, I just don't think it is a big deal. Plus, you can move it when it is in your viewing area.

Btw, if the inner part is removed for any reason, the outer part shuts off automatically.

The one wire leading to the puck-shaped motor shouldn't be too distracting.

Nope. I'm sure as the release date gets closer, the price will be announced and everyone will know about the same time.
