New DC pumps on protein skimmers ???

Hey guys,
Well I was all set to buy the Coral Vue Diablo-225 skimmer for my 105 gallon tank...then I saw the new DC pump options...now looking at the Reef Octopus POV-DC...confused on wether to go with a DC now or just go with the regular pump models...any suggestions ???

Dc pumps use less electricity, add less heat to the water, are quieter, and are controllable, but durability is not yet known. I believe Andrew is already running a DC skimmer and a DC return pump. I have 2 DC pumps on order (one for return and one for closed loop). If they work well, I am sure I will eventually get a DC skimmer too.

I am running a rlss 6i protein skimmer, along with a dc 5000 return, and I love it, in addition to the power savings it is dead quiet, and on the skimmer draws a ton of air.

...thanks guys...now I am leaning towards the DC pumps...seems to be where the hobby is headed. Since I am spending the money now, I mind as well get the newest technology and not want to upgrade later. My question is the reliability...will they last as long as the regular pumps ??

In theory they should last longer than regular pumps as they do a soft start and ramp up compared fast start and stop of AC pumps but who knows as these are first production pumps so prob bugs need to be worked out

I've been running a DC pump skimmer (ATI PowerCone) since Sept of last year and it has done extremely well so far.

I am running a Tunze DC return pump no issues and the only thing you hear on my tank is the hum of the mp40s.

Most online sites (not sure about lfs in the area) are gonna have a Memorial Day sale so if you are gonna pull the trigger on a new skimmer this weekend would be a good time
