new coral..w/ hitchiker!!

I couldnt get a picture of this, but I purchased a frogspawn yesterday, and since the crown was extended i couldnt see it had a dead stalk..which has a small opening where the animals body extended into the base, well I got to looking and there was a CRAB in there, a small, greyish green fuzzy crab. I couldnt exactly dig it out of the coral..and this morning i think its gone. Question is..could it have eaten that other crown? Or might it have just been a squatter??

Sounds like an emerald crad to me which is reef safe. Do a search on emerald crans and see if that is what you saw. If so you got a good freebee.

woo hoo thats what it is! too cool. What sucks is, as I was trying to get a good look at it in the coral- I saw some teeny tiny aptaisia on a rock with zoas I bought a few weeks ago... I scratched them off, but im mad :)

ook i dont think that crab was an emerald, ive seen it once since and its more brown and has banded legs.. and now one of my snails has been eaten and some of my polyps have been demolished..im assuming its this dude but hes quick, and since the first time I tried to catch him I havent seen him..i sat up all night with a dim moonlight on my reef trying to see him and no luck.. what to do?? Im afraid hes going to munch my corals next!!

I believe I have the same hitchhiker as you. I have not had much luck trying to catch, trap, otherwise corral the crab.

Here's a post from some time ago with some suggestions and ideas. Might help but I haven't had much success.
