New Banded Coral Shrimp

I put a new banded coral shrimp in my son's 30 gallon two days ago. As of now he is the only thing in the tank with the exception of a Bartlett and the cuc. I have not seen him since a little bit after putting him in the tank. The tank has a bunch of bidding places so I don't expect to have it out all of the time but how do I go about feedign him?

Thanks
Kevin

Wait a day or two then feed if you dont see him he is probably dead. Sorry to say that but what are your perameters?

He finally came out from hiding. One question how do you feed a banded coral shrimp? Are they scavengers lie other shrimp or do I need to feed it?

I have a purple one. I never see him and there were times that I thought he was dead. Every now and then I see him. I have never directly fed him so he must be scavenging food

I was not sure I've read a bunch about them and have found what they eat but never seen how to feed them or if they just scavenge. Thanks for the info

I fed mine pieces of shrimp about twice a week (same time that I fed my anemones). He also begged for it! I don't think it is neccesary to hand feed them, but kind of fun. They are nocturnal and come out of hiding when the lights come on. They are surprisingly good scavengers and will keep your bristle worm population under control. Really cool invert, but mine had to go once he started harrassing my cleaner shrimp. Just keep an eye on him with smaller shrimp and fish...they are very opportunistic!

I don't have any other shrimp in the tank so I won't have to worry about that. I tried to feed him a part of a silverside yesterday but he ran from my "stick" when I put it in he tank.

We feed ours shrimp pellets when he begs. Oh the inhumanity of it all!!! [smilie=crying.gif] @K_Red_Raider wrote:[quote="The tank has a bunch of bidding places so I don't expect to have it out all of the time but how do I go about feedign him? said:

I may have to look into some shrimp pellets. Ive never seen the but they sound like they might be easier than frozen food. Do you let it sink or actually use tongs to feed it?

I use frozen and mine has always come out from hiding when feeding time comes. Picks at everything that floats by, from Rotifers to mysis. Maybe try a garlic soaked piece of silverside or something to see if the smell will bring it out hiding maybe? Just stick it on a clip so if it does nothing you can just pull out whatever doesn't get picked at.

I have not thought about soaking it in garlic I soak the rest of the tank food in garlic so I will try that as well.

Molting could mean stress also. They are scavengers and if you have a hard time or worry about feeding him, buy a clip with a suction cup (the little nemo ones are cute) clip a small piece of Nori seaweed near his hiding place. You can buy Nori at your local Asian mart for cheap, or your LFS. Be careful. Buy the dried seaweed not the fried. And make sure it doesn't have salt. If it's fed well, it won't bother anything. I have one in my tank with 3 peppermint, and a tiny skunk cleaner and they get along fine, but the CBS will let the others know, he means business. Good luck. It's a beautiful addition to any size tank, just make sure you only have 1.
