New 75G Stand Question.

After haveing my wife's 29G spring a leak and proceed to flood the dining room, began to examine the empty 75G tank and stand I have in the living room. My FW Cichlid tank is a 75G tank as well, but the stand I noticed has a solid top, not thinking anything about it, the newest tank and stand I bought from 'Exotic Aquatics' has an open top. Although the stand has a center brace, it does line up with the center brace on the tank.

My question is this: Is anyone using and open top type of stand for a reef tank? I would hate to have the bottom of my 75G crack and leak all over the house as the 29G did. Any insight or suggestions would be appreciated. I thought of cutting a piece or plywood and placeing it on top of the stand, but I did not know if this was necessary or not. Thanks in advance.

The stand of my 125 is open topped. I place a piece of the pink insulation on top of the stand when I put the tank on it. I then proceded to cut the insulation out of the opening. I am not sure why it just seemed like the thing to do.

I believe that all of the pressure from the tank is transferred to the plastic rimm around the bottom and then on to the stand.
