Hello all,

I recently had a SCWD replaced by the 3iq because it was defective. During the replacement process I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner of the company, Paul Muscarella. He informed me a new SCWD will be released in Feb.

The new SCWD will have 1" MPT adapters, a removable top so the unit can be cleaned, and also come with 2 drums to adjust switching speeds.

He asked me if I would ask around weather people would like the SCWD to be clear or black. So... what do you think? Which color would be better for a SCWD?

Ben

Aesthetically, I like the idea of a clear one...

But, that would allow in light encouraging algae growth in the unit...

But at least it'd be cleanable, so I still like clear... You could see when it NEEDS a cleaning...

Also, they've been saying a 1" SCWD is about to be out for YEARS... Maybe it's for real this time, but I'm not holding my breath at this point...

First off this was supposed to be out over 3 years ago so I'm not holding my breathe! Second black is always better in my mind as it will keep the algea out. Clear will grow algea with the smallest amount of light and would make you clean it much more often!

Hey Brian,

I hear you on unanswered promises. Here is an exact quote from a recent email

"The new one inch is due out to our distributors mid February. Shortly after that you should start seeing them available."

Ben

I too would prefer clear, so you can see whe it needs cleaning or if smoething is stuck in it. Sounds good to me!!!

Here's a link to the new SCWD.

It's about time. I'm glad to actually see it available from a vendor.

Clear.

Then they should sell a dark skin seperately. Let's you quickly remove the skin to see everything is working without shutting the whole system down.

Wow it's actually a reality!

I'm not sure what the big deal about seeing inside is. If it's working then it's fine. If it quits switching take it apart!

I'm buying one to replace the old style that tends to lock up every 4 months on my system.

Plus, with the pump I have, the old style changes every 4 seconds, I'd like to see this ooncrease to a couple minutes

I just ordered one from D&T, it was a buck cheaper and free shipping. :D

I suspect it will be on backorder or pre order, but i'll update a post when I get it

Nice, I've often thought about trying a SCWD, but never felt safe with the hose barbs or the fact that they can't easily be cleaned. Just might have to give this one a shot.

Thanks for posting the info! :D

Psteel,

Why do you like the longer duration? i am disapointed they slowed it down. Right now my is around 9 sec with my old style SCWD. I would love it to be faster for some real wave action like the vortecs are getting. It says they are going to release different replacement drivers. That sounds promissing. I would love a fast version and some penductors to get my tank really rock'n.

you have a good point
I may be biased from my history of the old style going out every 4 months. My thought has always been the pump I had overworked them and if they slowed down some they would last longer. So,my thinking was coming from a endurance perspective, not a wave making aggitation perspective.

with my returns on penductors, it takes a few second for the water to really get moving. with the sqwd changing every 4 seconds I just wasn't getting the full effect. So, if they got these fixed so they go longer then the 4 months, I'm thinking maybe 10- 15 seconds may be enough to get the full flow going and keep things 'rocking'

Right. I didn't know it took a little while to get the full effect of the penductors. nice to know. I think my SCWD has been running for about a year and it has really never got stuck. Well... It does get stuck but all I have to do is stop then start my system and it gets switching again. I am really excited about these. They are a nice option before paying for the Oceans Motions. I want to see the 3500gph close loop. Keep us updated.

Thanks Yuki

Peter on the D&T website it says "DO NOT EXCEED 2000 GPH OR 5 PSI OR LESS THAN 50 GPH." But the link in this thread is says upt to 3500 gph...when you get yours can you see what the owners manual says as i am interested to in getting one but cant get one if it only rated for 2000 as my dart puts out more than that 3600 gph
