Easiest way to cure is to do get 20-25 gallons of water from a member tanks. Be sure to stir up the sand bed and get all the gunk to help cure the rocks and possible for them to scrap some coraline to help seed the rocks. You can have a flurecent light over th e tub your gonna use for 4 hour a day to start th curing of purple coraline more light you will have algea issue. Adding capful of purple every other day work well with the coraline growth. Change about 10 gallon water on the 1st week . I've done this method a million times. Two weeks and your rock are fully cured with start up coraline. Make sure to have a pump to circulate, I like the hydor 4 bc it shoot all different direction, and a heater set at 78 degrees.

could i use waste water from my water changes from my tank

If its 75 lbs of live rock from someone elses tank and they had it in a tank, then you dont have to cure it.

well i have started the curing process. i did a water change from my 75g and used the water to put on the rocks. 2 powerheads and heater are in with rocks. i'm going to wait a couple of days and run a couple of test

Eddie,
I'm no geologist but that rock in the picture sure looks like it was dug-up from someone's back yard in North Dallas!
It appears to not be nearly porous enough for " Live " or " Base " rock.....
There is no way I'd be putting that in my tank since it will offer little space for the critters to house their family!

My .02

If I was you id be looking for a refund, and if you cant, then id use it outside in the yard in a flower garden before I would put it in my tank. Just my .02

well the person i got it from said that she got it from lovecherl(steph)
so i contacted her and she said it was holy rock(h*ll i dont know)

If its truly holly rock, then alot of people do use it in there tanks, but many people including myself will not. Its a 50/50 call on your part as if you want it in your tank. But personally thats not very nice holly rock at all. Texas holly rock should have many holes allover it, if you want to put some nice holly rock in your tank, and your willing to come get it then I have a few peices that you can have, its not much, one rock is about 14lbs 2 more that is about 2-3lbs each. The 14 lb rock will make a nice center piece in the tank. Eddie its yours if you want to come and get it, and you decide if you want to put it in your tank.

well scott as u know i'm not doing any reefs for awhile so i dont think it would hurt those crazy fish of mine
WOULD IT

but i just checked out whiz-q site and it looks like a different type of rock to me( looks like tufa a lil bit)

Eddie,
Its kinda hard to know if it will hurt the fish or not, but I do tend to ask myself, why did the people you got it from pull it out of there tank only after a week or so? Allso that rock came out of the ground somewhere, now does it have any minerals on/or in it that could hurt the tank such as copper? Most likelly no it doesent, but you dont know that. Thats why most people wont use it in a saltwater tank, being a reef or f/o its just not natural to the ocean. But ultimatly its your call, if it was me I would not use it. you might can try it, its up to you.

Good luck

well i really dont now her reason but she said it was because she went with a lighter color of rock to use in her tank. i'm really thinking about all of those things that u said thats the reason i'm seaqrching so deep into this rock and i can say for sure its not holey rock. i'm looking to fill out my tank with LR because the more LR i add now it will be the less i have to add when i go for another tank for a reef, plus my tank looks so plain with just the lil rock i have and not alot of livestock. so i figured that if i added more rock it would help the look of the tank out.

Well like I stated in the earlyer post, Ive got some true Texas holy rock you can have if you want to come get it. Its up to you.

FYI , Curing is for rock that is or was LIVE. To my knowledge that rock looks like it never lived so rinsing should surfice.

But as other stated, it's not very good for LR.

You know, I'm looking at you rocks and they look just like the limestone I bought at the stone yard. Maybe you could look at this thread and it might help. Good luck, I think it will be okay to use.
