need tips on keeping maxima clam

Hi, i picked up a 2-3 inch clam couple days ago at the frag swap. I place it in my 15g long breeder.
I did what the vendor had told me and placed it on rock at a 45 degree angel and made sure it was provide high lighting.
i did more research and found that these clam are hard to keep even if they are provided what the vendor had suggested.
If anyone had any experience with these clams may i hear your experiences with them.

I run a 15g long breeder 24x12x12
HOB refugium
HOB mechanical filter/surface skimmer
Denitrator unite
Maxspect nano 60w 16000k led, hung 8in above surface, 45%ch A 45%ch B

I believe the smaller clams may need supplemental feeding depending on how much phyto you have in your water column. I've heard others say really strong lighting and whatever is floating in your tank and that gets scraped off the glass is enough.

I would put a small rock, tile, or something else underneath the clam so that the clam has something to attach itself to. Then, you can move it with the tile should you need to relocate it. They make little clam "holders" so to speak for that purpose. I can't remember who sells them but I picked up a couple at MACNA last year.

Ive had my 1 1/2 maxima for 2 months now and just bought another 1 at frag swap as well seems to be doing great i just feed all my corals in my 75g 8 drops of oyster feast and 8 phyto feast everyday and turn off skimmer for 1 1/2 hrs and thats all

Thank you for the quick response guy. i put a frag plug underneath the little dude and place jsb water weld paste on both said to hold it in place.
I am goign to assume supplement such as phyto and oyster feast? Wouldn't this increase my aglae growth? Will these supplements or any other supplement have any ill effects on my Acroporas?

i dont have a skimmer btw

Yea ur right....about algea growth not sure...i havnt had any issues but i have a skimmer

I wouldn't of put epoxy or glue down if shell is held in place on both sides how will the clam open and close

I only used the epoxy to give the frag plug a U-shape so that it can cup the clam in place. It is openign nicely right now. My only concern is feeding the clam. from what've read these small maxima clam tend to starve and gap in people tanks after a certain period of time.

Yes, adding nutrients to the tank will promote algae growth but the clam is a filter feeder and needs to eat. To combat algae make sure you have a good clean up crew. One snail per gallon is a good rule of thumb. Keep your skimmer clean and efficient. And enjoy your new additions.

Thank you Marc.
Marc, do you have any recommendation on what supplement i should use? what works best for you?
As for cleaning crew, i have 2 turbo snails, tons of these hitchhiker snails ( reef safe, i've check, just don't want to search up the name) in my 15g. would this be enough, or i need a couple more?
Everyone feel free to respond if you have an opinion

excuse my newbie questions guys

Agamez214, my mother feel in love with the little guy so imma try my best to keep him around. If i start to see signs of illness i will shoot you a PM

You can offer phytoplankton for the clam. If you use oyster feast, only use a drop or two at a time. It can lead to cyano outbreaks if overdosed. Not the end of the world, but a hassle.

I'd get 10 Astreas in that tank now.

My first post, so hoping I don't step on anyone's toes. just want to share another side.
Tridanca Clams do not have to be fed if lighting is sufficient. Key point is "sufficient lighting." I have a now large (6-7 inch) clam that I never feed and it's thriving. I never add any phyto or any other feed in a bottle to my tank. I have a great article on this, just need to find it to share.

You shouldn't try and glue the foot of a clam to any surface. You are aware that they do grow? I have grown out a many maxima clams, most I have sold after they got too big. You need good lighting for the clam. After that you just set it and forget it with a few inclusions . I have mine in the sand. I have put 1" in the sand as well. Just have to dig a little burrow so they don't fall over. I wouldn't recommend putting anything in the water extra to feed them. I have never done that, and Mine grow like crazy. What they need is calcium and other minerals to sustain their shell and grow properly. I have a calc reactor to take care of that. If you don't meet the requirements as far as minerals and not food. Its a lost cause.
