I need some input to move on wiht my project.. the tank I have has two overflow boxes in the middle of the tank. inside each box are two holes, one for the durso pipe and one for the return. what I wnat to do is get rid of the overflows and leave the tubes to get more tank space.. I made a quick sketch of the drain pipes I wanna put in. I need input as to see if this might work.

It's due to the size of the picture.

It will work. However, a couple of the problems you will face are poor surface skimming and the possibility of the bulkhead leaking and draining the entire tank.

Yep what david said and keeping them quiet will also be a major problem!

Do you like the toilet flush sound?

The only reason I did not do this in my 60g is what they stated above. If and when a bulkhead fails (you have 4) the entire tank will empty out. Scary thought so I kept my overflow.

The bulkhead failing seems like a stretch. I would think if that were an ongoing design problem we would be hearing about a lot of closed loop systems failing.

My two 6'x3'x1'trays have been set up for 10 years now with simple standpipes like your drawing shows. Knocking on wood that it won't fail. Most aquaculture trays are set up this way. The surface skimming appears to be adequate.

Small fish and inverts might find their way over the falls though.
