Need some ideas??

I drilled my tank through the bottom and just put a pipe that goes to the top and it acts as the overflow instead of having an actual overflow box. My question is, what's the best way to silence it ? I can stick something in the top of it and it will stop the noise but the water level starts rising. So any advice helps.. Thanks

Google durso standpipe. Gonna have to come up with a way to keep the critters out...maybe a small acrylic diy box or something that will allow you to surface skim. Or just some mesh to keep the fish and snails out.

Yea I checked that out but I'm trying to avoid the extra pipe. I wish there were. Way to just have a pipe going straight to the top with no 90s or tees and just have it overflow that way..

What if you had the pipe go straight up and extended out of the water. You could then cut teeth in the pipe with a table saw to allow water to pass through, then put a cap on the very top. There would be slots cut in the sides, but the top would be closed off. Then drill a small hole in the top to allow water to flow freely. Might quiet it down and eliminate the extra plumbing.
