I recently combined both of my 75g tanks into one 125g tank. I am looking to replace my junky powerheads with some wavemakers. I was looking at the Hydor Koralia system. I am planning to get the 4-Way Delux controller with 4 controllable Koralia 4 powerheads. My tank is stocked full with very large softies such as toadstools (One greater than 16" diameter) and various other leathers. I also have some SPS corals the size of a baseball. Finally, I have a large carpet anemone and a rock anemone.
My sump holds roughly 36 gallons of water and I utilize two return pumps which are rated at 900gph each. Considering the head pressure loss of the return pumps I should be turning over my tank around 5-7 times per hour through the sump. It seems to be working great by the way. No micro bubbles and my protein skimmer is working perfectly.
If I calculate correctly, with my return pumps and the Koralia 4's I would be turning over my tank around 45 X's per hour.
My question..... Would this kind of flow be too much? With the controller I can tune down the powerheads but I don't want to spend more $$$ than I need to. Also, I was thinking about 2 - Koralia 6 powerheads but I felt that four smaller powerheads would give me more flexibility; good idea or not????
