Brother n law has tank with problems, and dont know why!
He lost his powder blue tang, neon dotty back, in the last two days, xenia havnt made it the last couple of times.
Water was tested at DNA:ph 8.2 ammonia o nitrite 0 nitrate 10 phosphate 5 calc. 420 mag.1470 alk. 5
There was also some red slime (we think) in the sump?
Salfin tang turning black.
He is running a rios 3100 with a scwb. And two small power heads in tank. 150 Gal. tank. Is this pump big enough? TIA

Phosphate is 5 or did you mean .5? Above .1 is considered elevated. At 5, I would think lots of nuisance algae and perhaps other unfortunate things too. What is temp swing and salinity? Both can affect fish health.

Sorry to hear about your brother's tank. Things off the top:

Oxygen depletion maybe????? Is the tank covered (with glass tops)???? Any spaying occurred in the house(Fabreeze, insect spray etc)???? I would also make sure that Rio is pumping full power, then make sure it's not leaking oil. A sudden episode sounds like possible contamination of some sort.

Cheers,

Phosphate is .5 sorry/ there has been no chemicals sprayed around the tank. No glass top. He added a cleaner shrimp, and hasnt seen it since he put it in a week ago. And his zoos eyelashes are curled and have been for awhile.

One cleaner as opposed to two or more, will definitely hide. So he may be in there and just being shy.

Oxygen depletion is a possibility for the fish. Is his skimmer running 24/7? Are there any powerheads making the water surface ripple? Is there a visible film on top of the water? All could lead to the fish not getting enough oxygen.
