Need help with ID -- possible eggs / possible disease?

Hey everyone,

We are cycling a new 75g tank and put our CUC in not too long ago. We started noticing these things on the glass that look like fried eggs. We thought that some of our snails or stomatella had laid eggs, but we are also noticing them on the back of two of ours snails. We don't think a stomatella would lay eggs on a margarita snail, so now we are worried that they are some sort of disease. I tried to get pics of both the eggs on the glass as well as on the snail (a couple pieces of rock also have the eggs). Any help with ID would be most appreciated -- we are getting kind of worried that it's something bad! Thanks in advance!

Since they are not crawling around, I would say they are definitely some sort of egg. Not stomatella, since they disperse theirs in the water. I have seen nassarius snail eggs, I believe that they are, all over my tank that are similar to those, but I don't think near that big. What you are calling a margarita looks very much like the nerite snails that I have. I would guess nassarius eggs, but don't really know.

No they're not nassarius eggs. I've had those and raised them. I've never seen anything like those.

I'm pretty sure those are nerite snail eggs. I have a bunch of the snails like the one in your hand that I ordered from reefcleaners and noticed the same type of eggs all over shortly thereafter. They must have hatched and been eaten up as I haven't seen any since then. I freaked out when I first found the eggs as I didn't know what they were.

From Ron's link I found this:

Nerite eggs on the shell of a nerite snail?

David

Yeah, I had them laying eggs on other snails, heater, glass, whatever they could find that was convenient I guess. They move around a lot in my tank and always seem to want to have a little pow wow in the overflow box, sometimes 6 or 7 at a time.

Ah! Thank you all so much for the links and insight! We feel much better knowing they're just nerite eggs. Weird that they lay them on other snails but whatever works. Thanks again everyone!
