Need help with a water change mistake

I feel like an idiot for going this, but after doing a 35% water change in my 75 gallon, I realized that I used the wrong supply line from my ro unit. I had the waste water fill my trash can and the good water go down the drain.

Of course I am making new water for another water change, but in the mean time is there anything I should do about adding 30 gallons of tap water to my tank?

Thanks,

Do you have any phosphate removing media in the tank? If not, I'd probably add some. Since the water went through a couple of sediment / carbon filters , I doubt it'll do more than cause some nuisance algae issues.

I would certainly run some carbon and a polyfilter if you already don't. And I would do a couple of back to back water changes with some ro/di water. That is alot of city waste water to go in that size tank. Do you have any copper or chlorine tests that you can do?

I do not have any tests for chlorine or copper. I am headed to the LFS for some new carbon and some other supplies. I will also do multiple water changes.

Thanks,

Let me know if you need water and I can get my RO/DI running to bring some over for ya. I've got 5 gallons ready to go.

I would not recomend that large of a water change. doing a 50% change could send your tank into another cycle. You would be better off doing about a 5 to 7 gallon change each week.

This is an established tank, I don't know if I agree with send into a cycle portion of your comment. Given the circumstances, what you suggested is not the best couse of action. IMO This is one of the few times where I see a need for chemical help to alleviate a potentially serious problem.

Cheers!

I agree with Ron.. in an established tank, with lots of LR and substrate, if you match temperature and ph, I don't think a large water chage would hurt anything.

Now whether it's needed or not.. the RO rejection line comes after multiple sediment and carbon filters. The carbon likely took care of the chlorine / chloramine and most heavy metals.

At this point, the chlorines have been broken down, and if you had a metal poisoning, I'd think the signs would be visible. For peace of mind you can get a copper test kit, but I don't know that I'd panic unless that showed some result.

I did another 30 gallon water change last night. I am running carbon in my little hang on magnum and addad a phosphate remover. The 75 gallon tank has been established for a little over a year with about 125 lbs of LR. I have no SPS to worry about only softies and so far everything is looking pretty good today Thanks for everyones input.
